Board Commendations January 24, 2012

Administrators and Teachers – Institute Day Activities – Derek Straight asked the Board to join with him in commending our teachers and administrators for their efforts during the recent institute day activities. He noted to the Board that the day that the day focused on differentiation of instruction and that teachers were split into groups so they had the opportunity to access the tools that were being recommended for their classrooms.

Board Commendations January 10, 2012

Illinois State Scholars – Kevin Shelton asked the Board to join with him in commending the twenty Johnsburg High School students who were named as Illinois State Scholars. He noted that the Illinois Student Assistance Commission selected the students at the end of their junior year on the basis of their test scores and class rank. The Board commended the students for their academic achievements.

Board Commendations November 22, 2011

Jason Blumenthal – DAR Good Citizen Award – Kevin Shelton introduced Jason Blumenthal to the Board and then asked them to join with him in commending Jason for being chosen by the High School staff as this year’s Daughters of the American Revolution Award recipient. Kevin noted the positive accomplishments and leadership qualities for which he was chosen. Board President Tom Low presented Jason with a certificate and district Frisbee.

Gary Blumenthal – Volunteer Work at JHS – Kevin Shelton asked the Board to join with him in commending one of our district parents, Gary Blumenthal, for volunteering his time to take on the time consuming task of checking and fastening the bolts in each seat in the auditorium to make sure that they are all properly secured.

JHS Student Aaron Smith – Chicago Bulls and Bears Drum Lines – Kevin Shelton introduced Aaron Smith to the Board and then asked them to join with him in commending Aaron for being selected to play cymbals in the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Bears Drum Lines. He noted that Aaron will have the opportunity to work with professional musicians and perform at all of their home games. He also noted that this is a tremendous honor for Aaron who has been a great leader in the High School drum line.

Johnny Laman – McHenry County Magazine – Kevin Shelton introduced Johnny Laman to the Board and then asked them to join with him in commending Johnny for the extraordinary amount of effort and hard work that he has put into his fashion designs for which he was highlighted in the current issue of the McHenry County Magazine. Kevin noted that the high level of talent displayed in Johnny’s work is very impressive.

Back-to-School Efforts
Maintenance Staff and Building Custodians – The Board joined with me and the building principals in commending our maintenance and custodial staffs for the fine job they did over the summer to improve both the inside and outside of the buildings and ensure that they were ready for the beginning of the school year. I encouraged the Board to take time to visit the schools to see for themselves the results of their hard work.
